The Woman in the Dunes

Niki Jumpei, an amateur entomologist, searches for beetles in a remote desert. He finds himself trapped in a village buried by sand dunes and discovers that he is imprisoned with a young woman at the bottom of a vast pit. The villagers force him into labour, shovelling sand to survive. As he grapples with his fate, Jumpei confronts themes of isolation, survival, and the human condition. This novel explores the struggle against an indifferent environment and the existential questions that arise from it.
